About me
Hi, thank you for checking my webpage.
I'm a nutritionist and developed a love of sailing first by windsurfing in Wal
es. After emigrating to NZ, I was introduced to yachting by Richmond Yacht Club. I was soon crewing regularly and by 1999 was ready to own my own boat. I chose a Reactor because they sail well, are affordable, easy to handle and have a strong owners association with class racing.
The knowledge and inspiration I gained from others yachties with their enthusiasm to share helped my steep learning curve. I found myself getting to grips with everything from engine maintenance to pouring the best "sailing cocktail".
Auckland harbour offers plenty of yacht racing, proving a wonderful place to hone racing skills. It also brought out my competitive spirit and love of winning.
During long distance coastal racing the thrill of surfing down waves under spinnaker continues to fire my love of the sport, culminating with an overall handicap win in the 2008 Auckland to Tauranga race. The Round White Island race tested us in our first offshore race.
During my first solo cruise beyond the Bay of Islands with other Reactors, I discovered I loved single handed sailing and have continued to sail the Hauraki gulf whenever possible. I soon learnt to make up for my lack of fishing skills by trading wine with fisherman yachties.
The dream of testing myself by competing in the Trans Tasman race developed during solo cruising and long night races.
